Björn Martenson studied architecture at the RWTH Aachen. He started his own office there in 2003. Sonja Nagel and Jan Theissen founded their atelier Nagel Theissen in 2004 in Stuttgart, having studied architecture and design at the University of Stuttgart, the Pratt Institute Brooklin and at the ABK Stuttgart. In 2010 Martenson, Nagel and Theisen established their joint office AMUNT. For their first project, the residential house JustK in Thübingen, they received the Weissenhof - Architecture Prize for young architects and the Hugo-Häring-Prize. House Schreber, built in 2011 near Aachen, was selected for the German Contribution to the 13^th exhibition la Biennale di Venezia 2012 and received the German Award for Architecture in 2013.

Since last year Studio EAST (EPFL/ENAC) has been organising a series of open lectures with the aim to present individual practical approaches of architects from different European countries. Each semester 5 offices are invited to present 3 of their projects. Those 3 projects are thought of as milestones that should represent the parcours of the office. The aim is not only to present architectural interventions but also to focus on the internal and external conditions of their development: the backstage of the architectural fabrication. Furthermore the insight into the different working methods and the story behind the formation of the office provides a good opportunity to learn about the different ways to start and lead an architectural office.

Previously 5X3 organised lectures by Salto Architects - Tallinn, AWG - Vienna, Boltshauser - Zürich, Klaus en Kaan - Amsterdam and Staab Architekten - Berlin. For the upcoming semester Studio EAST is pleased to announce 5 new lectures by Barbas Lopes Arquitectos - Lisbon, Bruno Fioretti Marquez Architekten - Berlin, GENS association libérale d'architecture - France, Fuhrimann Hächler Architekten - Zürich and AMUNT Architekten - Aachen/Stuttgart. Starting this semester a new collaboration with the Forum d’Architectures de Lausanne will provide the opportunity to open the lectures to a wider public and to create a new link between students, architects and the general public. The lectures will be held in English (with the exception of the lecture by GENTS) followed by an open discussion.

La série de conférences publiques 5x3, organisée par le Studio EAST (EPFL-Section d’Architecture), vise présenter l’approche pratique singulière d’architectes. Chaque semestre, 5 bureaux présentent 3 projets: la toute première réalisation et deux autres projets comme les jalons d’un parcours.

En Suisse romande, les objectifs politiques et les grands projets en cours promettent des milliers de nouveaux logements sur le marché d’ici quelques années.

Quels types de logements (2.5, 3.5, 4.5 pièces ou plus) seront mis sur le marché ? Comment les investisseurs définissent-ils la proportion de chacun de ces types ? Leur choix répond-il à l’immédiat ou envisage-t-il l’évolution de la population à long terme ?

Partant des modèles win-win de partage de ressources de l’économie et de l’industrie, on peut se demander si de nouvelles formes de logement peuvent émerger. Y a-t-il un marché et / ou un intérêt économique à la mutualisation dans le marché libre du logement ? La pression foncière et la crise du logement forcent-elles à l’association et au partage ? Le partage du logement est-il un réflexe pragmatique de survie ou une réelle aspiration de changement de mode de vie ?

Andreas Fuhrimann Gabrielle Hächler Architekten - Suisse

Since 1995 the Zürich based studio of Fuhrimann Hächler deals with different building tasks. However they became famous for their residential projects for private clients related to the art scene. Fuhrimann Hächler regards the intensive study of contemporary art and the transfer between different visual cultures as an excellent way to explore perception and claim fields. Their homes exemplify how the architects achieve a balance between seemingly irreconcilable opposites: on the one hand they are looking for the "un-Swiss" the imperfection and impurity. On the other hand their architecture is very controlled and thoughtful conceptual. Excellent examples of this are House Presenhuber in Vnà (2007), house Müller Gritsch in Lenzburg (2007) and their own home in Zürich (2003)

Andreas Führiman and Gabriele Hächler are currently teaching at the University of Arts (UdK) in Berlin.
